URGENT: Emergency mobilization for Tuesday, 1/31 for a Sanctuary State

sanctuary-handsOur compañeros at the Day Worker Center (Centro Jornaleros) here in Santa Cruz need our help to turn out people in support of SB 54- California Values Act.

The Centro is an important part of our sanctuary community. They are taking the lead to send vanloads of people to Sacramento on Tuesday, January 31 to help pass SB 54 making California a strong Sanctuary State. These teams will have to leave VERY EARLY Tuesday morning.

Please contact Mireya Gomez at (831) 588-2994 if you can join immigrant worker activists from our community for a day of solidarity action in Sacramento. Transportation and food will be provided.

Let us know if you are able to serve as a driver and/or as a team leader. Drivers will need to pick up and return rental vans, and team leaders will make reminder calls on Monday night.

BORDER WOUNDS: the impact of deportation of immigrant families

2-4 PM Sunday January 29 Resurrection Catholic Church 7600 Soquel Ave, Aptos

The purpose of this event is to kick off fundraising for a Compassionate Fund for emergency assistance to families affected by deportation.  If you have no money come anyway… there is much good work to be done!

Deportations have already traumatized hundreds of families in our communities and it is a shame that we have no support resources in place for them.  Let’s become a stronger sanctuary community!

1/23 Public comment in Santa Cruz and Watsonville City Council meetings

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, we need your support during public comment in both Santa Cruz and Watsonville City Councils.

In Santa Cruz, at 5:30pm, we will be reporting a complaint by an immigrant family concerning racist harrassment on the part of city staff. We will also be urging the City Council to establish EXEMPLARY policies to ensure that we “sustain trust and safety” in the era of Trump.

In Watsonville, at 7:30pm, we will be urging the City Council not only to adopt a declaration of sanctuary but also to review and reform police and other department policies to “sustain trust and safety” in the era of Trump.
